Week 1
Week one was definitely a challenge. Throughout the year long coarse at teachers collage you are never quite prepared for setting up your own class room. Going in to it I was very nervous. By the end of day one I was very nervous and stressed. By the grace of those around me I was able to get through and in hindsight had such an awesome time. Where else can you work where no two days are the same and you make a difference. My focus for the week was to get to know the children, build relationships and set the expectations for the year. By day one I managed to know everyone's name. In the process we had a lot of fun learning new games, creating art, going swimming etc. In terms of behavior management we did a lot of practice around how to line up, sit on the mat and how to walk around the school. There has been a lot of talk around becoming independent and learning to be respectful and responsible and it surprises me how fast the children catch on. The notion of being responsible and respectful has been beneficial for the children as they have been kind to others and have been caring of others in group situations. As week two rolls around I will continue to be looking at building on top of the behavior management strategies in my class as we begin to look at tumbles and more academic work.
